2025.10.17 Eindhoven University's E.W. Bert Meijer and Patricia Y.W. Dankers visited the Department of Macromolecular Science at Fudan University.
On October 17, 2025, E.W. Bert Meijer and Patricia Y.W. Dankers from Eindhoven University visited the Department of Macromolecular Science at Fudan University. They delivered an exciting and cutting-edge report on supramolecular polymers, ranging from basic science to biomedical applications, to the faculty and students present.
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Meijer started with The Centennial Cycle of Polymer Science, reviewing the magnificent scientific journey from Hermann Staudinger's establishment of the concept of macromolecules to the rise of the field of supramolecular polymers today. He explained in a clear and concise manner how to utilize non-covalent interaction forces to construct intelligent materials that can respond to light, pressure, temperature and chemical substances, and looked forward to the application prospects of such materials in cutting-edge technologies such as OLED.

Professor Dankers focused on the field of life sciences and shared how to design supramolecular materials to drive the revolution in regenerative medicine. She introduced how her research team used synthetic supramolecular monomers to construct dynamic materials that can simulate the natural extracellular matrix. These materials can be assembled and dissociated on demand, providing new solutions for drug delivery and tissue engineering.

During the question-and-answer session, the atmosphere was lively and there were continuous applause. The students from my research group seized this rare opportunity to have a direct conversation with top scientists and conducted in-depth discussions with the two professors. The two professors provided detailed and thought-provoking answers to the questions raised by the students, and the sparks of ideas kept flaring up during the exchange.

Honorable Moment: Academician Jiang Ming presented the award to Professor Bert Meijer
During the lecture, a simple yet grand special ceremony was held. Academician Jiang Ming was present at the scene and awarded the title of Fudan Scholar to old friend E.W. Bert Meijer professor. This moment not only recognized Meijer professor's individual academic achievements, but also represented a profound and meaningful friendly interaction within the international polymer science community.

At the end of the event, all the members of the research team took a group photo with the two professors who had traveled from afar. The camera captured this precious scene filled with smiles, which not only recorded a successful academic activity but also symbolized the continuation of the scientific research spirit and the strengthening of international cooperation friendship.
